If you need a book to read…

I highly recommend Tom Robbin’s Skinny Legs and All.

Comical, political, cultural, philosophical, lyrical, it covers the fantastical, the everyday, and current events. Everything a good book should be.  The complexity of it makes me want to compare it to the my favorite movie of the moment Pan’s Labyrinth. But with more relevance to the present.  And with more absurd characters, starring the Arab and Jew duo, the NYC artist duo from evangelical Virginia, and not to mention the quintet of animate objects the Painted Stick, the Conch Shell, the Can o Beans, the Dirty Sock, and the Silver Spoon.

It paints imagery from “as twilight was buttering the stones of the city” to an applicable description of the state of dating “bachelors…having been hurt at point A, they insured themselves against being hurt again at point C, by becoming assholes at point B.” Love it.
